Immediate Gratification

You know, there is a saying that often goes around in the weight loss community and it goes something like this:

“You didn’t gain it overnight, you aren’t going to lose it overnight.”

It serves to remind us to be patient with the scale.  Removal of weight takes time and consistency.  You don’t get to see the results of your efforts right away.

However, as Michelle and I are both finding our way back to center these last few days we’ve both found that there ARE multiple benefits that you start to benefit from almost immediately…two days back on track and you already start to notice:

  • More energy
  • Feeling “lighter”
  • Less negative self talk
  • A more optimistic view about EVERYTHING going on in your life, not just health
  • Less joint pain and inflammation
  • Clearer focus when concentrating
  • Less general swollen/bloatedness
  • Rings feel looser
  • More confidence/happier with self
  • General feeling of  control over your life (notice your house is cleaner!)
  • No sugar film on your teeth and tongue
  • Clearer skin

So, yes, that saying about not losing weight over night is correct.  But I can attest to the fact that you will get some immediate gratification from making good health choices.  You just have to be willing to look for them somewhere other than the scale!

Ironically, as Iwas writing this post I received a text from my sister (who is kicking butt in her own weight loss journey with over 45 pounds gone!).  The text said this

“The feeling of the power and reward of self-control is intoxicating.  I wish I could bottle it.”

Amen Sister!  The nice thing is that we don’t have to bottle it, because we have the ability to continually manufacture it.  The secret of course is never giving up on our ability to do so.

And now, for a quick report on my day.  Today was another OUTSTANDING day! Lots of good choices made, lots of focus on my goals.  Take a look at this photo:

If you look closely you’ll see what I was trying to capture…SWEAT, and exercise equipment…that’s right, I went to the gym!  I did 20 mins of cardio, 20 mins of weights and it felt great.

I just read your last couple of posts. Congrats on getting back on track! Why is it so hard to eat right, fix meals, take vitamins, drink water, exercise, etc when we know it will have such benefits for our minds and bodies? I wish I could bottle my child’s energy and joy. Remember skipping and running around for FUN?!?

Thanks Julie! I agree, S is currently interactively watching Sesame Street, which includes lots of dancing and jumping…and I’m dreaming of bed! :) :)
